Previously I worked in the office of a consumer goods chain in Manila. I had heard about freelancing but didn’t know much about it. I spent some time researching and became interested in freelance writing. I’ve always enjoyed writing, but I had no idea I could make money doing it – except writing books which I don’t have a clue. So, I signed up for some online classes and chose to write in the B2B field which was a good choice. I registered online with a company that would assist me in getting work.
It was tough in the beginning getting a good job for good pay. I began at the bottom and took a few jobs for much less than minimum wage. Then I started
only to apply for jobs that paid more.
I had to apply to a lot of them before I got my first assignment. It was worth the wait because this job turned
into lasting over a year. I wrote every
day and also edited for the company which was a great
experience for me. By then, my referrals
were enough to keep me moving up the ladder.
I keep at it, getting
higher paying jobs, for five years. Then
it was time to make a change. I packed
my clothes and laptop and moved to Matalom. What a place to live and work – pure
paradise. I may have missed a few
projects since my move, but now I can
take advantage of the variety. I
finished writing a book about filipino culture and do a lot of promotional
pieces for events in this area. I still
keep writing my B2B content, but it’s up
to me how many hours I work each day or not.
Freelance writing literally changed my life for the better. I’m living in a beautiful place, eating
healthy, making new friends, and working on
things I love.
